Proper Hand Washing and Sanitizing

As many as 50% of people don't wash their hands after using the restroom!  No wonder we are out of hand soap with this Coronavirus scare.  Shocking and gross.  You know who you are, wash ya filthy hands!  Well, you're in the right place, let me tell you how.

When to sanitize or wash hands:

  • Before preparing food or eating.
  • Treating wounds or giving medicine.
  • Touching a sick or injured person.
  • Inserting or removing contact lenses.
  • After preparing food, especially raw meat or poultry.
  • Using the toilet or changing a diaper.
  • Touching an animal, animal toys, leashes, or animal waste.
  • After cleaning if you don't wear gloves.
  • Before putting on your cleaning gloves.
Hand sanitizer works very well for some viruses, but does not work well for Norovirus.  The alcohol in hand sanitizer is not selective, it kills pathogenic bacteria as well as common friendly bacteria flora.  Studies have been shown that hand sanitizer doesn't necessarily affect the good bacteria on your hands as your body replenishes the good microbes on your hands.  It does strip your hands of oil, which could have negative effects.

How To Use Hand Sanitizer Correctly
  1.  Put hand sanitizer in the palm of your hand.  Apply enough for product to WET your hands COMPLETELY.
  2. Rub hands together and clean all parts of the hands.  Fingers, thumbs, nails, wrists.
  3. Rub your hands together until they are DRY.  You know you've used enough if it takes 25 to 30 seconds to dry on your hands.
How To Wash Hands Properly

  1.  Wash hands for 24 seconds, lather fully, cover entire hands.  Wash same areas, fingers, thumbs, nails, wrists, and palms.
  2. Proper time for hand washing is two rounds of the birthday song.  Rinse well with warm, warm water.
I  sure hope this helps!  Happy Cleaning!
