Makeup Brush Cleaning
If any of you have been to my Instagram account, you'll know I have a passion for makeup! I'm not makeup artist status by any means, but I still have fun sharing looks! So I love makeup, and I love cleaning, you know cleaning my makeup tools would be fun for me! It is important to clean your brushes, as all the heavy product on your brush bristles can cause the bristles to snap. Not only will washing your brushes prolong their life and feel better on the face, you will keep your skin cleaner too! Here's how you do it:
Make a mixture with dish soap, some vinegar, and just a tiny bit of olive oil. The oil will loosen up the product and condition the brush hairs and the dish soap and vinegar will break down the product and clean the brush. I dip my brush into the cleaning mixture and then use my hand, straightened with my fingers together, as my washboard. I swirl the brush around on my hand with a decent pressure until lots of makeup has come out of the brush, then I rinse briefly and swirl the brush again. Do this until the water coming out of your brush runs clean. After you've done this, squeeze out the brush bristles with your fingers going base to tip. The water runoff from doing this should be clear. When placing your brushes to dry, roll up part of a towel and put the handle higher than the base of the brush where the bristles are. Letting your brushes dry this way will prolong their life significantly. I like to wipe down the brush handles and while I am at it, to prevent bacteria, I wipe down the outsides of palettes and other products.
For washing your beauty blender, which really should be done frequently as sponges easily become one of the most germ and bacteria ridden things in your home, go ahead and grab your sponge. Let your sponge soak in hot water with a soap you would feel comfortable using on your face, or beauty blender soap. Once it has soaked for 10-15 minutes, or even longer, I took a gentle bar of soap and scrubbed my sponge with it. I continued scrubbing and rinsing until the water from my beauty blender ran clear when I squeezed it out. After I just set it to dry on a towel and voila, you're done! I hope this helps, happy cleaning!
