Cleaning Tips

We all want our homes to feel clean and comfortable, at least you must if you have been brought to my blog!  I am almost twenty, but even though I am young, I have my share of cleaning knowledge to give!  Here is a list of some of my favorite cleaning tips!  Happy cleaning!

1) Use your hands!  Always use your hands to feel your countertops after they've been cleaned, you'd be surprised what crumbs or soap scum you could miss.  The same when you are doing dishes, rinse the dishes well while using your hands to rub the dish until you feel that squeaky clean friction.  Nothing is worse than reaching for a clean dish and feeling a greasy film!

2) Use water!  A supervisor at my housekeeping job once told me, "You can't truly wash yourself without water, and the same goes for cleaning."  So just wiping off a counter or tub or toilet without any water, just with cleaner, isn't going to leave things clean!  Get your cleaning cloth wet and then clean everything, it'll feel so much better!

3) Pumice stones are great for toilet bowl cleaning and oven cleaning!  Any stuck on gunk under the rim of the toilet or at the bottom of the bowl or that nasty rim?  Pumice stone will take care of it if nothing else will!  Same for the oven, if you have cleaned it multiple times and there's still black on the bottom that won't budge, go at it with a pumice stone and it'll clean it up!  Just test to make sure the pumice stone doesn't scratch your oven in an inconspicuous place, it shouldn't, but better be safe than sorry!

4) Dryer sheets in garbage bags.  These absorb the bad smell of your garbage, it's pretty amazing!  I say garbage bags because when I have put it in the bottom of the trash under the bag it has absorbed the smell through the bag and made the actual trash can stink.  If your trash can does have a smell you could put a dryer sheet in the bottom but I wouldn't put a bag with trash in until the dryer sheet has been given time to absorb the smell!

5) A shower squeegee, even if you don't have a glass shower door.  Having a clean bath and shower is the best feeling!  It can be very tiresome to clean though and if you aren't in tip top shape the up and down bending will break your back fast.  Spray your shower cleaner and scrub like you usually would.  I have used Ajax and water to make a paste and then scrubbed the shower walls, this is back breaking.  When it is done, instead of bending up and down to the running water back up to the walls, spray the cleaner off with water.  Just fill an empty spray bottle with plain water!  Then squeegee off the walls.  You still go up and down but this makes it much easier.

6) A friend of mine with two kitties told me this one, and it's awesome!  Using a pumice stone on couches and chairs to clean up pet hair.  Totally works, it balls right up and then you can lint roller it away or vacuum!  Either way it makes it much easier to grasp!
