One Dirty Apartment
A space that was previously occupied by over ten large fishtanks, a dead bird, roaches, mold, and endless clutter is the space I live in now. My now husband and I were engaged, and we were offered this basement apartment by a family member. I was grateful, but daunted at the amount of work ahead of me! Then, a miracle happened. Out of all the years the shot piping sat undisturbed, then, right as we decide we are moving in, the whole basement floods. A pipe burst in the bathroom, a merciful act of God in my opinion! Because of this, they also found asbestos in some tiling, I feel much safer knowing it is gone!
The old stained carpet was ripped up and the moldy walls in the bathroom were cut out from water damage. The mold stained walls and crackly paint in the rest of the house were sanded and primed and painted. A new bathroom cabinet and toilet were installed, a much needed update! If only I had thought to take before and after photos! While we were cleaning off the extreme clutter on the kitchen counters, a dead bird was found. Aaaah! That is definitely one of the LAST things in the world you want have on a kitchen counter! Don't worry, the counter has been THOROUGHLY bleached since then! Of course the roaches moved out too after they realized there was no more food to be found because things were clean! Pest control helped too, especially since basements are prone to oriental roaches, which is the kind that was down here! But that first month of living here was terrifying! Roaches are filthy little creatures!
After the remodel we moved in, and there were still areas of the house that went untouched by the remodel. The kitchen appliances and counter and cabinets, and the bath tub and tile walls. As small as this sounds, it has taken multiple cleaning sessions to eliminate stains and dirt and grime.
The reason I am telling you this, is because I want you to know you can count on my cleaning advice! I started out not cleaning a decently clean space, but a truly dirty one that took a lot of work to clean! Because of this space, I have figured out so many cleaning tricks, and I cannot wait to share! Happy cleaning everyone!
